Skin care tips for winter
- Do not bath or shower in very hot water. Warm water is much gentler on your skin. Do not bathe more than once a day if your skin is very dry.
- At night use a cold cream or moisturizer meant for dry skin on your face. If you have oily skin, then use an oil-free moisturizer.
- Take oil massages once or twice a week an hour or two before your bath. You can use olive oil or sunflower oil.
- Avoid exposing skin to harsh winter elements such as freezing temperatures and drying cold winds.
- Apply the moisturizer at least twice a day, once after your cleansing routine in the morning and again before you go to bed. Always apply moisturizer on clean skin. Your hands can also benefit from the application of the moisturizer.
- Avoid scrubbing and loofahs. If you have a sedentary lifestyle and are in an air-conditioned environment most of the time,
you might need to use the soap only for your folds and private parts.
- The most common triggers of the scratch/itch cycle are sweating and overheating. Wearing layers allows you to remove clothing as needed to prevent overheating. Be sure to wear loose-fitting cotton fabrics next to your skin.
- Cold weather can cause the body’s systems to stagnate. Eating warm cooked foods, drinking warm water or herb/spice teas and moderate daily exercise can help improve circulation, digestion and elimination, keeping skin healthy and clear.
- Drink lots of water. Internal hydration keeps skin cells plump and healthy. Water also helps transport nutrients to skin cells, keeping them nourished.
- Drink a glass of hot water with lemon. This Chinese herbal remedy is a sure-fire method of energizing your body. It will de-t ox your entire system, including the liver and gall bladder. This means that your body will be able to clean the blood faster to get rid of toxins responsible for bad skin.
- Simply sleep! Money can’t buy the benefits of a good nights’ rest. Your oxygen levels will drop if you don’t get enough sleep, meaning that your cells will not be renewed as quickly.
