Due to worries, tension, anxiety and age the skin becomes drier, less active, fragile and will be to prone to wrinkles. Sometimes lines may appear near the eyes and mouth which leads to loosing of youthful color and glow. Failure of oil glands in the skin which releases oils to moisturize the skin may result in dry skin. Exposure to dry air and harsh winds, hormonal imbalance, use of aggressive chemicals, excessive bathing with harsh soaps and use cosmetics may take away the moisture from your skin making it drier, flakier and cracked especially during winter.
So care must be taken to protect the skin from being got dried. There are many methods to prevent dry skin. Some of the common methods are:
- Wash your face in cold water or gently soak your face in rose water.
- Avoid the use of soaps with high alkaline content and also detergents like washing powder or soaps.
- Use creams and makeup products with oil content.
- Avoid hot baths, walking in hot sun and harsh winds.
- Avoid smoking because smoking takes away oxygen present in the skin and nutrients as well. This makes the skin to become more dry and leathery.
- Consumption of water may reduce the cracks and sores present in the skin. Chapped areas in the skin must be kept well lubricated and protected by using good nourishing cream or moisturizer.
- Use of mild, creamy, pH balanced moisturizing gels or lotions may help you to protect your skin from getting dried.
- Including fruits, vegetables, grains, seeds and nuts in the daily diet may provide necessary vitamins and minerals which are necessary to maintain a good healthy skin. Lessening the intake of fried foods, alcohols, soft caffeinated drinks may also reduce the chances of having dried skin. This is because such foods and drinks causes lose fluids from the body.
